Sports Funding

The Primary School Sport Premium given by the Government  includes £150 million per year up until the academic year 2015/16. This is ring fenced funding allocated directly to primary schools across England. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport.

The Government’s PE and School Sport Vision is supported in by national partners Sport England, afPE, Youth Sport Trust and County Sports Partnerships

Our funding comes directly to Mr Ballard and is ring fenced to spend on improving the quality of PE and school sport for all our children.

During the last twelve months MSP has significantly increased the proportion (almost 100% more) of sports funding it spends on top quality coaching and consequently on CPD for staff. This has had a profound impact, with staff becoming much more confident to take groups, under the coach’s supervision, and develop their skills and ability. We have noticed that our pupils have had healthier and more active lifestyles, as a result. Pupils have chosen to participate in a variety of breakfast, lunchtime and afterschool clubs, including rugby, football, running, tennis, dance, gym, dodgeball and dance talent.

Our Class 3 children continue with the swimming agenda and our school will take part in a local swimming Gala in the Summer Term. Our children will also take part in other competitions with local schools including both girls and boys football matches, tag rugby, cross country running and tennis. These competitions are aimed at a range of ages, that allows all our children to take part in some form of competitive sport activity.

During the next year, we will work with Suzanne Rath (Mawdesley Tennis Centre) to further build confidence and aim for staff the jointly lead the PE lessons with her. In this way they are actively taking on board the necessary CPD and reinforcing it with practical application. Furthermore, the transition to the Tennis Centre means that school benefits from cutting edge, flood-lit courts and outdoor arena. We believe that this approach of shared leadership on a local basis means that our PE is outstanding AND sustainable into the future.

In 2016/17 we have also begun working with Mindology who have introduced our children to 'Relax Kids'. Relax Kids strategies use therapeutic exercise and yoga, breathing exercises, and mindfulness exercises to help children relax and reduce anger and stress situations. Our school has begun an 8 week programme, and we will be evaluating the impact of this over the coming months. Every child in our school has been involved with these sessions.

Our plan below shows how we will make further improvements to our sports offering, and the impact this will have on our children throughout 2017 / 2018
